Games ready to start!
It is just over 24 hours to the official opening of the Games. The program for the opening is as follows: A Holy Mass at the St. Anastasia Cathedral will be officiated by bishop Mile Begovic (Gospic-Senj) with the accompainment of a 100 members choir „Druga Obala“ from Solothum in Switzeralnd. Following the Holy Mass the entertainment program will feature Barbara Othman (national anthem); folkloric group „Domagoj“ from Edmonton Canada; Ivan Kalinic from New York; Ivan Dobra Zirjanin (poet), klapa „Kaleta“ and Ivan Dražović from Zadar.

From Nin to Posedarje
Besides the already announced Evenings of Croatian poetry from abroad (19th and 20th July) which are organized in cooperation with the University of Zadar, we would like to announce two additional events that will mark the Games but are not directly linked with the athletic program. One event will be a visit to the oldest Croatian royal town of Nin (20th July) where visitors can enjoy the old town in an evening accompanied with live music. The second event is a fishermen's night (festa) at Posedarje (22nd July), to be held at the sea promenade just after the soccer semi-final games at the local soccer stadium. Don't miss it!

Games to be opened by Ministers Yelich and Jandroković
The official opening ceremony of the II Croatian World Games will be held on Sunday, July 18th 2010 begining at 6 p.m. with a Holy Mass at St. Stosija's Cathedral. The program continues at 7.30 p.m. at Pope John Paul II square with a participants parade and an appropriate entertainment program. The Games will be officially opened jointly by Canadian Minister of State, Lynne Yelich, and the Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gordan Jandroković. A more detailed program will be available soon.

Austrian ministers ambassadors for CWG

Thank you ministers!
We are proud to announce that the CWG are enriched by two distinguished ambassadors. The ambassadors are ministers from the Republic of Austria, Mr. Norbert Darabos, Minister for Defence and Sports, and Mr. Nikolaus “Niki” Berlakovich (picture), Minister of Agriculture and Environment. Both ministers are members of the Croatian ethnic minority from Gradisce that lives in Eastern Austria, and also in neighbouring regions of Hungary and Slovakia.

Patronage of the Foreign Ministry

Foreign Minister expected
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by the Foreign Minister Gordan Jandroković, has confirmed its patronage of the CWG. In his letter, Minister Jandroković emphasized that “the Games are a good way to connect the homeland with Croatians from abroad, especially younger generations from all continents“. It has been confirmed that the Minister will be present at the opening ceremony.

Letter from the President
The Croatian Olympic Committee have confirmed its patronage over the CWG. In his letter, the president of the COC, Dr Zlatko Mateša, has welcomed the Games and its overall importance to the Croatian sports family. The letter can be read here. President Mateša also confirmed that he will be attending the official opening of Games. It is expected that the honorary president of the COC and member of the International Olympic Committee, Antun Vrdoljak, will also attend.

Calendar of Events
From today you can make use of our CWG Calendar (Program). The content will be filled gradually and should be complete by the end of the month. The Calendar allows you to check all sporting disciplines separately, as well as other cultural and social events associated with the Games. The official opening ceremony of the Games is on Sunday, July 18th, starting at 6pm. More details will follow soon.

Assistance for Bosnia and Herzegovina

Donation from Čapljina
A few days ago in a meeting was held in Međugorje between the OC of CWG and the National committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Despite the harsh financial situation the preparations are progressing well. Especially welcomed was the news that the district of Čapljina, represented by Major Dr. Smiljan Vidić, has donated € 3000 to cover the main part of the volleyball team expenses. The majority of volleyball players are from Čapljina itself. It is expected that Team Bosnia and Herzegovina will count around 100 members.

Eco-Heritage Task Force

Applications in progress
Immediately after the Games, the Croatian Heritage Foundation is organising their traditional Task Force project where young people from Croatia and abroad are working on environment protection and restoration of neglected parts of Croatian native, architectural, cultural and historic landscape. This year the project will be held in Karlovac County on archaeological findings and the historic Karolina road. More information can be found here. Kontakt:
